Steps to Update Motorola Moto X 2014 to Official 5.0 Lollipop OS

Motorola Moto X 2014 is one of the most advanced Smartphone devices that bagged rave reviews in the global Smartphone market. While the Smartphone carries the popular Android 4.4.4 kitKat OS right now, users of the said device can this moment update it further to the newest Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware. Of course, this is the part of an official soak test from Motorola, and there is still time for the OTA update to hit the Moto X device. But here we have this manual update guide following which the users can easily update their Smartphones to the newest 5.0 official firmware. The process is quite easy and takes few minutes only. But before initiating the process, don’t forget to meet the requirements mentioned below, since those are of utmost priority.

Pre-requisites
  • A Motorola Moto X 2014 Smartphone
  • A computer to download the required files
  • Original USB cable
  • Moto X USB drivers for your computer. Also forget not to install ADB.
  • Enable the USB debugging option.
  • Create a complete back up for all important data such as SMS, MMS, Images, Videos, Contacts, and other data on your Smartphone.
  • Keep your phone fully charged or at least maintain a minimum charge of 60% in it.

 Procedure to Update
  • First of all download the above mentioned firmware and then connect your Moto X to the PC via USB cable. Then place the downloaded .zip file in your  Motorola Moto X Smartphone from your computer.
  • Now disconnect your Smartphone form the computer to proceed to the next step.
  • After, boot your Smartphone into Recovery mode. To do that switch off your smart phone and enter it into recovery mode by press and holding the Volume down, and Power button simultaneously. Holding these two buttons press Volume Up button to put your device into recovery mode. You can use the Volume Down button to scroll.
  • In recovery mode, first clear cache and wipe data with the available options from your Smartphone.
  • Then choose ‘install zip from SD card’ by scrolling down in recovery mode and select the firmware.zip file that you have earlier placed in your smartphone. Now initiate the process and follow the instructions that appear on your screen.
  • The whole process will take around 5-10 mins and post update your device will be rebooted itself.

Once your device reboots, you can check the firmware version of your device by visiting Setting=> About Phone. In case your your device doesn’t reboot or struck into Bootloop sequence, you can re-install the firmware on your device starting from first. To do that turn off your device and follow the procedure again. To restart your device, either long press the power button or reinsert the battery.
