Landrover unveils the special edition Freelander

Landrover has revealed the secrets of its special edition Freelander. The vehicle is expected to hit the roads in the month of June 2014. It has a 2.2 litre SD 4 turbo diesel engine .The engine delivers a maximum power of 188bhp and a maximum torque of 420Nm. The engine is coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission system. It attains a maximum speed of 190kmph, drags 0 to 100 in 9 seconds and gives a mileage of 12.35kmpl.  The other variant has 2.2litre TD4 diesel engine, it has four cylinders and is coupled with a manual speed box. It supplies a power of 148 bhp which is lower than automatic variant. It attains a maximum speed of 181kmph, drags 0 to 100 in 11.2sec and gives a mileage of 12.39kmpl. The vehicle rides at a height of 210mm from the ground.

Landrover has announced that it will replace the name of Freelander with Discovery Sport and will feature seven seats instead of five. Mr. Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer, during his speech at the 2014 New York International Auto Show said, “I am proud to confirm the nameplate that will make Discovery a family of vehicles for the first time. It will be called Discovery Sport and will go on sale in 2015. This will be the most versatile and capable SUV in its segment and is the first expression of the Discovery Vision Concept unveiled here in New York.”

The new Freelander has a host of new features like thicker carpets, electrically adjustable front seats, panaromic glass roof, heated steering wheel and “Windsor” leather upholstery. It comes with an air conditioner having automatic climate control system and humidity sensors. Whether you drive it in the sand, rocks or snow, the performance of this SUV remains unaltered. With the terrain response system and the hill descent system the vehicle remains stable and controlled all the time.

The new vehicle offers 2 automatic and 2 manual transmission options. The SE trim SUV will have touch screen infotainment system, automatic wipers, automatic lights, 380-watt meridian audio system and 19-inch alloy wheels. The base variant of the SUV SE will have new armrests, bodycoloured bumper, front fog lights, heated windscreen and 18-inch alloy wheels. The Landrover Freelander will be displayed at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in UK this month between 14th March and 18th March.
