All speculations have to come to an end and Google has finally launched the Nearby Share app, using which files can be easily transferred between PC and Android Smartphones. As you know Google and Windows share a pretty good relationship which have previously been resulted finding the CromeOS , has moved a step forward with Google’s Nearby Share tool. The new tool is now available for the Windows users.
Google has launched the Nearby Share tool a year after it was first teased at the CES 2022, points 9to5 Google. The app though is currently in Beta, but can be downloaded from the official android.com website from a supported device.
Once downloaded, you will be prompted to log in using your Gmail Account, though there is also a guest option. Guest option does mean, you can use the tool without an account. But it’s always wise to log into the tool using the same Gmail ID that you have used to log into your Android device. Once logged in, you can change the visibility of your device and can opt how your device will appear to other devices.
Similarly, you can choose for your PC to be visible to whom i.e. to everyone, only contacts, your devices, or no one. Once done with the set up of Nearby Share, you’ll be taken to a window where you can start dropping files to send to other devices or to receive from them. As per reports, the tool does its work honestly and pretty fast by sending and receiving files between PCs and Smartphones. The best part is that the users don’t have to leave the Nearby Share app open on their PC to be recognized by the phone which is pretty good.
However, certain requirements are essential to make the app work. Users need to have a PC running 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 and must have Bluetooth and WIFI enabled on their device for the app to function. Besides, the maximum distance between the devices should be within 16 feet (5m). Files sent through the Nearby Share app are absolutely secure being those are end-to-end encrypted.
