Maruti Suzuki India is set to introduce two new SUVs to their existing line-up – the Jimny 5-door and Fronx. These models were unveiled at the Auto Expo in January 2023 and have since been showcased at Maruti’s Nexa outlets across India. The company aims to provide potential buyers with a first-hand experience before the launch of the vehicles. The Jimny 5-door is currently arriving at dealer showrooms, with the first unit displayed at a Nexa dealership in Delhi.
The Jimny and Fronx features
In the company’s lineup, the new Maruti Suzuki Jimny sits between the Grand Vitara and Brezza and is available in two variants (Zeta and Alpha). Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro four-wheel drive is included as standard equipment in the SUV, offering an unmatched on- and off-road driving experience. A 1.5-liter K15B petrol engine, generating 103 horsepower and 134 Nm of torque, powers the SUV. A 4-speed torque converter automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission pairs with it. Despite having less horsepower and torque, the Jimny has a lower kerb weight and a similar power-to-weight ratio as the Mahindra Thar.
Maruti Suzuki has equipped the Jimny with cutting-edge technology and safety features and offers it in seven attractive color schemes. The anticipated cost of this new SUV is between Rs. 10 and 15 lakh. As of this writing, customers have placed nearly 30,000 orders for the Jimny and Fronx.
The company plans to launch the Jimny and Fronx in May 2023 and start manufacturing them soon. In recent years, Maruti Suzuki’s sales have increased significantly, and the company is currently leading the sales charts in CY2022 by a significant margin over its rivals. Sales have risen by 16% year over year, reaching 15.76 lakh units. Nevertheless, the market share has fallen from 44.79% in 2021 to 41.68% in 2022.
