Tips to Update Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini to Android Lollipop 5.0 AOSP Firmware

Well readers, before I had informed you about Android Lollipop, the newest family member of Android and the most advanced one. While Android Lollipop is already on floors with its extravagant features and specifications, almost all advanced Android handset users must be eagerely waiting when this firmware update will hit their device. But unfortunately, it seems not Samsung is going to push the newest firmware to any of its major devices and hence these users have to get satisfied with Android KitKat 4.4. But midst this delusion, the good news is that the Samsung Galaxy S3 mini handset users can now start updating their Smartphones with the latest Android Lollipop 5.0 AOSP Firmware. Isn’t it a great  news? Then what to wait for? Let’s go through the steps to initiate the update process. Before that let’s take a look on the requirements.

Pre-requisites
  • A Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini Smartphone
  • A computer to download the required files
  • Original USB cable
  • Galaxy S3 USB drivers for your computer. Also forget not to install ADB.
  • Enable the USB debugging option.
  • Back up of all important data on your Smartphone.
  • Keep your phone fully charged or at least maintain a minimum charge of 60% in it.
  • Make sure that your Galaxy S3 Mini Smartphone is rooted before you start with the procedure, since this is a Custom ROM firmware.

NB: You must have your Smartphone rooted to flash this firmware in your device. So make sure that your Smartphone is rooted, unless the process will be a complete failure.

 Procedure
  • Connect your Galaxy S3 Mini to the computer via USB cable and place the downloaded files in your  Galaxy S3 Mini Smartphone from your computer.
  • Now disconnect your Galaxy S3 Mini device form the computer to proceed to the next step.
  • After, boot your Smartphone into Recovery mode. To do that switch off your smart phone and enter it into download mode by press and holding the Volume up, and Home button simultaneously. Holding these two buttons start your device to put it into recovery mode.
  • In recovery mode, first clear cache and wipe data with the available options from your Smartphone.
  • Then choose ‘install zip from SD card’ and search for the firmware.zip file that you have earlier placed in your smartphone. Now initiate the process and follow the instructions that appear on your screen.
  • Post update, return to the main menu of your Galaxy S3 device and choose the ‘Reboot System Now’ option. Keep in mind that the whole process will take around 5-10 mins.

Once your device reboots, you can check the firmware version of your device by visiting Setting=> About Phone.
