Mercedes-Benz which is known for its luxurious and powerful road machines, has announced that it would launch the GLA series in India soon. The GLA series vehicles are the first to get the modern 4-Matic all wheel drive. The Mercedes GLA was unveiled at the Auto expo held in Delhi this year. Mercedes India has already received cars for homologation. Homologation is the process of certifying that a particular car is roadworthy and matches certain specified criteria laid out by the government for all vehicles made or imported into that country. Two variants of GLA will be launched in India, they are Mercedes GLA 200 CDI and the GLA 200 sport variant.. Mercedes-Benz will launch the GLA compact SUV in the domestic market by the festive season this year. The Mercedes GLA will be priced between Rs. 28-31 lakhs.
The GLA 200 CDI is powered by a 2.2 litre diesel engine which delivers a maximum of 136 Hp and maximum torque of 300 Nm and drags to a top speed of 215kmph while the sport has a 1.6 litre petrol engine which delivers 156 of maximum power and 250 Nm of torque and reaches a top speed of 205kmph.
Both variants of Mercedes GLA will get a host of features like premium leather seats or comfort, seven airbags and other kits to ensure maximum safety. They will also have automatic bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, front and rear parking sensors, auto-on wipers, Bluetooth connectivity with audio streaming, a six-speaker audio system, dual-zone climate control, reversing camera etc. The petrol variant i.e the GLA Sport will have additional features like panoramic sunroof and frontal parking sensors to assist the driver.
The engine for the Petrol variant will be a turbocharged engine. Both the engines of 200 CDI and 200 sport have 4 cylinders and will be integrated with a 6-speed manual gear box with mounted paddle shifts as their standard features. It is being expected that India will be getting only the front wheel drive vehicles.We hope that India will also get the AWD variants in the near future.
