Government of India is providing free bot removal tools which can be used to remove trojan and malware from your devices. Know how.
With the growing Smartphone usage, risk of malware attacks have emerged as primary concern for many. People across the globe become victim to malware attacks and scams every other day, thereby making it an apprehension. So to address this issue and assist users to safeguard their Smartphones, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has introduced several free bot removal tools.
To create awareness, the Government is sending SMS to users over their phones. “Stay Cyber Safe! To protect your device from botnet infections and malware, the Government of India, through CERT-In, recommends downloading the ‘Free Bot Removal Tool’ at csk.gov.in,” reads the message.
But now question arises, what’s botnet detection and how users can access these Government – provided free tools? For those who are not aware, Botnet is a network of devices including Smartphones and computers that have been infected by malware. Once these devices get infected by Botnet, the hackers get complete control over your device and can carry out varied malicious activities that include accessing sensitive information, blocking incoming and outgoing calls and messages and accessing your internet banking details.
So how your device can get infected by a bot
Your device can get infected by a bot if you open an infected attachment, click on a malicious link, download a file from untrusted source or use an unsecured WiFi network. Now let’s see how you can check if your device is infected with malware or botnet.
How to Check
- Open the www.csk.gov.in website and click on “Security Tools” tab.
- Select the name of the company which bot removal tool you want to use.
- Click on Download to download and install the software on your device. Tools are available for both Android and Windows users. Choose as per your choice from the list.
- Once downloaded, run the software on your device to complete the installation process.
- Once installed, the tool will scan your device and remove any infection if detected.
Apart from the Bot removal tools, the portal also includes security apps such as ‘USB Pratirodh’ and ‘AppSamvid’ which will give additional security to your devices. These apps protect your system from viruses, trojans, and other malware.
