Audi unveils new 3.0 V6 TDI engine

German Based leading automobile maker Audi has revealed a new 3.0 litre V6 TDI engine at the recently held 35th International Vienna motor symposium. The older 3.0 Variant TDI has gained popularity in India and has powered all the diesel models of Audi. This engine is a turbocharged diesel engine and will be available in two versions  276 PS and 221 PS.

Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg  Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, Technical Development said “The new 3.0 TDI substantiates our claim as the leader in diesel technology,” “We have led the competition ever since the first TDI engine 25 years ago, and are constantly extending this lead with new ideas.” As Professor Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, explicates: “TDI engines are a central part of our technology mix for the mobility of tomorrow.  We have continued to perfect this technology over several decades and believe there is still potential for increasing efficiency in the future too.”

It has six cylinders and a 90 degree cylinder bank angle. Depending on the version the engine generates a peak torque of about 600 Nm .Audi claims this engine to be more powerful and delivers better economy. The engine has optimized piston rings and pins which reduce the friction to give ultimate performance. The leap in the power is catered by the turbocharger and a fully variable load oil pump. The cylinder head features a new design and have separate coolant loops. The crankcase also has a separate coolant loop. The efficiency is enhanced by the improvised and innovated thermal management system .Its fuel efficiency has been increased by 13 %. The Audi engine has reduced the emissions by 15gm less per kilometer. The nitrogen Oxide Storage catalytic converter which has been combined with diesel particulate filter and selective catalytic Reduction (SCR) injection helps it making it a cleaner engine.

Audi has also showcased a new seven-speed dual clutch transmission for the cars having longitudinal engines with front wheel drive at the Vienna Motor Symposium. The new-generation S-tronic is purely sporty and comfortable. The newly developed dual-clutch transmission system instills with its high efficiency, reducing CO2 emissions by as much as 10 grams per kilometer. It has been developed to meet the rigid regulations of Euro 6 standard. Audi has stated that the engine is qualified for the `clean Diesel ‘tag. So the engine can also run on ultra low sulphur diesel.
