Recently there was a rumor doing the rounds that the annual Fastag pass will not be applicable for the six to seven seater vehicles that ply on the highways. This created a major uproar among taxi owners and drivers. Most people prefer bigger vehicles for highway travel, hence this news that the annual pass of Fastag will not be applicable created a major confusion.
The rumors further said that the annual Fastag pass will be applicable only to five seaters vehicles. The news report became highly viral, so much so that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had to clarify via an official X post on their verified X handle. NHAI wrote, “#FactCheck: NHAI would like to clarify that all non-commercial Car/Jeep/Van with active FASTag, are eligible for the Annual Pass. Kindly refrain from spreading fake news.”
The NHAI via the X post has clarified that the news has been ‘fact checked’ and that it is completely false and that it will be applicable to all non-commercial Car, Jeep, Van with active Fastag. All the above are eligible for the Annual Pass.
It is worth mentioning here that, a lifetime free toll pass for yearly and 15 years is available for Rs 3000 and Rs. 30,000 respectively from Fastag. Under this scheme, lakhs of passengers travelling on national highways (NH) will get direct benefit.
According to reports, the crowd at toll plazas will get reduced further following this new rule. The central government has already introduced the facility of annual or lifetime toll passes across toll gates in India. According to this scheme of the Central government, passengers will get the facility of travelling through toll passes across India for just Rs 3,000 a month. The annual Fastag guarantees a maximum of 200 crossings for a one time charge of Rs. 3000 across all NHAI toll plazas across the country. It can be activated using the Rajmarg yatra app.
