Jeep to launch new Compact SUV in India, both in petrol diesel and electric version

With the growing price of Petrol and Diesel every other day, demand for Electric Vehicles is also growing  across the globe. With that the Indian Electric vehicle market is also emerging. In between, Jeep is getting ready to strengthen its Indian line-up. Jeep is planning to launch a compact SUV for the Indian market. It will be the most economic vehicle in the Jeep line up. With that the company also will launch an electric version of the vehicle.

Of late, Jeep has launched the Compass Facelift in India and has assembled the Jeep Wrangler in India. Jeep will also offer a CKD or completely knocked down unit for the Grand Cherokee. Jeep has also announced that all their vehicles will have an electric version by 2025.

According to media reports, the new compact SUV resembles to the smallest SUV of Jeep i.e. Renegade. Jeep was testing Renegade in India, but could not launch it here because its length was more than 4 meters. Because the vehicle manufacturer doesn’t get tax benefits from Government on cars more than 4 meter, so Jeep is planning to launch this new compact SUV in India which will be less than 4 meter in length.

Jeep Subcompact SUV New

The new Compact SUV will be prepared based on the Common Modular Platform (CMP) of Stellantis. This platform is already being used by Peugeot, Vauxhall, Citroen. So Jeep will not need to build a new platform for this new car and it will help the company to save money. Sale of the Jeep Compact SUV is expected to go on sale from the next year.

The automaker might use the 1.2 liter engine on the new compact SUV which will be a turbo charge unit. This engine can generate more than 100 bhp power and more than 150 Nm turk. This engine will be made available with both Manual and Automatic gearbox.

Jeep is planning to offer a 4×4 drivetrain with the compact SUV, a first for a car in the segment. However, the CMP platform does not support 4×4 drivetrains. So, Jeep will use an electrical system for the rear axle, while the front axle will be powered by an internal combustion engine. It will be similar to the 4Xe system that is offered with the Jeep Wrangler.
