Apple rolls out seamless background security patch for 26.3 beta users

Generally the Cupertino based tech giant release the .3 updates around January and on Mondays. So in keeping with the former trends, it is expected and likely that the new iOS update 26.3 will be released on January 26 that is a Monday. But what is very surprising is that, Apple has released a seamless background security patch for 26.3 beta users, this is a first ever for the Company.

The new Apple update is called iOS 26.3 (b) and it was released on January 8, 2026 it is a beta release. The update, was first reported by Aaron Perris from MacRumors. He said it is a Background Security Improvement feature. “Apple has released iOS 26.3 (a) for developers and public beta testers,” Perris further informed. The new iOS 26.3 (b) release is also exclusively for testing, not to deploy fixes.

Apple in a document informed, “Background Security Improvements delivers additional security protections between software updates. Background Security Improvements delivers lightweight security releases for components such as the Safari browser, WebKit framework stack, and other system libraries that benefit from smaller, ongoing security patches between software updates.”

It further added, “In rare instances of compatibility issues, Background Security Improvements may be temporarily removed and then enhanced in a subsequent software update.”

Where to find the Update:  

Settings for Background Security Improvements can be found in the Privacy and Security menu.

On iPhone and iPad, go to Settings > Privacy & Security.

On Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Privacy & Security.

Go to Background Security Improvements and make sure that “Automatically Install” is turned on.

If you choose to turn off this setting, your device will not receive these improvements until they are included in a subsequent software update.

It is worth mentioning here that, Apple is urging all its users to regularly update their iPhones so that the security and other features function smoothly. The update is already available to users in its beta version. Apple in the update on iOS 26.3 beta says, “gives you an early preview of upcoming apps, features, and technologies. Please back up your iPhone before you install the beta.” Apple just made it simpler to move from iPhone to Android with iOS 26.3 beta.

So according to the update by Apple on the iOS 26.3 release, the main highlight is the shifting of data from an android to an iPhone shall become very easy and convenient.

Apple in the iOS 26.3 beta update adds a new feature called Transfer to Android that makes it easier to migrate from an iPhone to Android device without the need of third-party apps. We’re expecting iOS 26.3 software to come out somewhere around the end of January.

“Place your Android device next to this iPhone to get connected and begin the transfer process,” Apple explains in the Settings app. “Notification Forwarding” system that allows iPhone notifications to show up on a third-party smartwatch or other wearable form factor.

“Notifications can be forwarded to one accessory at a time,” Apple explains. “Notifications will not appear on Apple Watch while Notification Forwarding is turned on.” You can find this new option in the “Notifications” menu in the Settings app. The feature, however, is limited to the European Union.

Apple has made changes to wallpapers menu on iPhone with iOS 26.3. Weather and Astronomy wallpapers split into two individual sections. Apple has added a few new pre-built wallpapers in the Weather category.

Here is an important update for all Apple iOS 26 users, the company urges upgrading to iOS 26 at the earliest. Apple is now strongly recommending software updates for the iPhone. The Cupertino based tech-giant is now actively asking users still on iOS 26 to upgrade to iOS 26.2 as soon as possible. Apple has issued urgent security updates to address two critical zero-day vulnerabilities.
