New YouTube filter will allow longer videos and remove Shorts from search, know why

YouTube will let you exclude Shorts from search results and will let you choose from longer videos. This is the latest update that has been done to the largest and the most popular video platform on the internet. This feature will help you search with ease and filter your feed properly, providing proper and appropriate search results.

The goal of YouTube is to equip you with more effective advanced search tools, ensuring you can consistently and efficiently locate the content you love.

What is changing:

New Filters and Renaming: YouTube has made some key additions and renames to ensure the sorting options align better with the viewers expectations.

Dedicated Content Types: A new Shorts filter to the ‘Type’ menu. This gives viewers more control over whether they see Shorts or VODs (long-form videos) in their search results, so you can find exactly what you’re looking for, regardless of format.

‘Prioritize’ Menu: The ‘Sort By’ menu has been renamed to ‘Prioritize’. This refined sorting menu aims to maximize utility.

‘Popularity’ Filter: The ‘View count’ sort option has been renamed to ‘Popularity’. This filter allows you to easily locate popular videos related to your search queries. Our systems assess a video’s view count and other relevance signals, such as watch time, to determine its popularity for that specific query.

Simplified Filter Options: YouTube is simplifying and reorganizing the filter menu to make it more intuitive and improve the overall search experience. This includes removing some options that were not working as expected and had contributed to user complaints.

The two filters YouTube is removing are ‘Upload Date – Last Hour’ and ‘Sort by Rating.’ However, you can still find the most recent search results in one of our ‘Upload Date’ filters, and explore popular, highly-viewed videos using the new ‘Popularity’ filter option.

Recently, the Mountain View tech giant YouTube has now taken up the matter of dislike in a easy yet interesting way. YouTube shorts is now testing a new dislike button with a new layout and clearer phrasing.

YouTube is doing this to help reduce accidental taps on dislike and encourage proper thought about feedback. It is worth mentioning here that, the YouTube Shorts dislike button still remains private.

This goes a long way in helping the algorithm improve. It gives  recommendations rather than publicly judging creators, thus encouraging them to make content.

This improved test goes to show that YouTube is constantly working towards refining Shorts. This further shows that YouTube is competing with TikTok and Instagram or short video format  dominance.

YouTube has been constantly working towards improving users experience while using the app.
