Enhancing Siri by using OpenAI’s ChatGPT on iPad and iPhone

Let us know the steps by which you can enable ChatGPT on your iPad or iPhone to expand Siri's functionality!

Artificial intelligence (AI) is now a widespread technology that touches many aspects of how we live, including music streaming and smartphone photography. The incorporation of generative AI into a variety of applications and services has advanced thanks to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Although Google Assistant and Siri are already AI-powered assistants on Android and iOS devices, respectively, ChatGPT can expand Siri’s functionality. To access ChatGPT, you must first have an iPhone or iPad and sign up for an OpenAI account. While ChatGPT is accessible for free, a Plus edition with more features is also offered for $20 per month.

After creating an OpenAI account and gaining access to ChatGPT, go to https://platform.openai.com/ and click on the “Personal” option in the top right corner. From the sub-menu, select “View API Keys,” then “Create New Secret Key,” and copy the key. These steps can be performed on a web browser.

Then, on your iPhone or iPad, go up Yue-Github Yang’s page and select the post labelled “ChatGPT-Siri” that is pinned. Choose “Shortcut Download,” then “Smart Chat 1.2 English” and “Set Up Shortcut” to download the files. Copy and paste the secret ChatGPT API code into the following menu, preferably from a notes programme like Google Keep.

You will now see a shortcut named “ChatGPT 1.2” on the shortcuts app on your iPhone, allowing you to type queries inside the chatbox and receive conversational-style answers. You can also rename the shortcut for easy access, such as “AI.” To access ChatGPT via Siri, say “Hey Siri, AI,” and ask your question.

While the integration of ChatGPT into Siri is not perfect and may occasionally close before reading the ChatGPT-generated response, it significantly enhances Siri’s capabilities.
