In a major glitch, many Gmail users reported several issues in their inbox. They said that the classification of the emails was not working and that the inbox was full of spam. This was reported by several users on Reddit and various official Google discussion forums.
Popular tech website Android Authority warned, “Google’s killing off the best Gmail feature you never knew about. If you relied on Gmailify to keep other inboxes organized and spam-free, you’ll need a new plan.”
9to5Google another tech site wrote, “the aim of Gmailify was to provide Gmail features to people with Yahoo, AOL, or Outlook/Hotmail accounts. You could keep that email address while benefiting from Gmail spam protection.”
Google’s Response
To this Google responded on an official community and wrote, “Some Gmail users experienced a misclassification of emails in their inbox, additional spam warnings, and delays in receiving email.”
Google further added, “The issue with Gmail email classification is resolved as of Saturday, 2026-01-24 09:55 US/Pacific. We will publish an analysis of this incident once we have completed our internal investigation. We thank you for your patience while we worked on resolving the issue. As always, we encourage users to follow standard best practices when engaging with messages from unknown senders.”
“Some Gmail users experienced a misclassification of emails in their inbox, delays in receiving email. Additionally, misclassified spam warnings from the incident may persist for existing messages received before the issue resolution, ” Google explained.
In continuation Google warned users about a possible breach in security and said, “Gmail users might see banners indicating missing spam checks. Users might experience the following banner: “Be careful with this message. Gmail hasn’t scanned this message for spam, unverified senders, or harmful software.” We advise the users to be extra diligent in lieu of missing spam checks. Our engineering team is investigating the issue.”
