Reliance Jio plans to launch laptops in India at just Rs 15,000, in talks with HP, Acer, Lenovo and more

After dominating the Indian Smartphone market with pocket-friendly JioPhones, now the Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Jio is eyeing to dominate the tech market once again. But this time not with Smartphones, but budget-friendly laptops. Reportedly, the Indian business tycoon is planning to launch laptops priced at just Rs 15,000 through his conglomerate, Reliance Jio.

For this Reliance Jio is in talks with the big laptop manufacturers like HP, Acer and Lenovo. The company is planning to reduce the laptop costs drastically by leveraging the power of the cloud and defying the traditional method in which the device houses both processing power and storage. This way, the laptops will act just as a dumb terminal while the actual processing and storage will take place on Jio cloud, the cloud computing service offered by Reliance Jio. If this works, then the laptop costs can be way cheaper in comparison to the traditional laptops. Apart, the users can get lots of free and paid subscriptions with Jio Cloud.

Trials for the JioBook is underway with HP Chromebook and the new laptop is said to run on JioOS and will be priced at Rs 16,499. Available information confirms that the JioBook will feature a MediaTek chipset, 4GB RAM, and 64GB of storage, with an option of further expansion. Also the users will get 100GB of free cloud storage. The laptop weighs just 990 grams and will be available in Grey and Blue color variants.

If everything goes well and the laptop comes to market, then it might create a revolution as Reliance Jio had brought in the telecom industry.
