COVID-19 Pandemic is still taking thousands of lives across the globe every single day and hence most of the events are virtually hosted. Apple also is following the trend to unleash its new products.  Just of late on 15 September, Apple hosted its annual event to introduce many of its newest products that includes iOS 14, iPadOS 14 and WatchOS 7 which were earlier on Beta stages. Though the new iPhone is yet to release, but you can install the new iOS 14 on your iPhone with all its brand new features. But here we shall let you know about some interesting iOS 14 features that you many not be aware of.  Let’s take a look.

Back Tap

This is one of the most convenient features of iOS 14. With this feature you can open Control Center, lock your iPhone, turn on the torch, take a screenshot, or start any of around 20 other operations just by tapping the back of your iPhone. You can Back Tap either two times or three times and set specific shortcuts according to your need either with Double Tap or Triple Tap.

So what you have to do is to go to Settings> Accessibility>Touch>Back Tap. Now you can customise and assign the functions either with double or triple tap, according to your wish. Just to inform, this function is only applicable on iPhone X and later models.

Hide the Hidden Album

Well, this feature is of much work. In previous iOS versions when the user choose to hide a photo from Library, it actually showcases in the Hidden Album. So a person with little knowledge on iOS devices, can easily find the images out. That’s why Apple has added a new feature on iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 that allows users to hide the Hidden album from the Photos app completely.

To activate the feature you have to follow few steps only. Go to Settings > Scroll Down > Photos > Hidden Album. Here Toggle Off the Hidden Album option and the album will disappear. If you want to make it available again, then just Toggle this option on.

Change the Default Web Browser

Best part with iOS 14 is that it allows you to to replace your Default web browser Safari with any other web browser of your choice and replace the default email app with any non-Apple App. To set up your preferred web browser app go to Settings > Use Search Bar to find your Browser. It can also be found on the down scroll under Settings. On the next page tap on Default Browser App and set your preferred one as default. Upon search if you don’t find  the web browser, then know that it has not been added by the developers. For the time, this option is only supports Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

And if you want to replace your email App with your preferred one, then go to Settings > Use the Search Bar to find the Email AppSimilarly, here also you can scroll down to find your preferred email App in Settings. On the next page tap on Default Email App to set it as your preferred Email App.

Again, if you don’t find  the Default Email App, then worry not. This moment this option is only supports Outlook and Spark.

Sound Recognition

This is one of the most interesting fetures on iOS 14 and iPadOS 14. The Sound Recognition feature can detect doorbells, door knock, car horn, or a baby cry and warn the users accordingly. To enable the feature Settings>Accessibility> Hearing> Sound Recognition. To activate you can ON the Sound Recognition option. Instantly your device will start downloading the feature. But ensure that you must keep 5.5 MB additional space on your device to use this feature. Once Download is completed, you will move to the next section where you need to click on Sounds and Turn ON all those sounds that you want your device to detect.

Don’t forget to add this feature to the Control Center for better operations.

Picture in Picture

PiP (Picture in Picture) is a great feature by Apple which was supported since iOS 13 on iPads and from iOS 14 it will start supporting the iPhones. This feature allows the users to perform multiple tasks on the same screen at a time. PiP supports apps that run Video Content, but for that you need to wait for the apps to support this functionality.

Biggest benefit of PiP on iOS 14 is that it supports FaceTime. On iOS 13  while FaceTime re-videos your video each time you switch to a new app, on iOS 14 it mimimizes automatically allowing other end of the video to still appear without being removed by itself. To return to the full screen, you need to press FaceTime only once whereas to resize the window you can tap FaceTime 2 times in a row. You can move the PiP window to any suitable position over the screen and can even flip it out of the screen if you want. After flipping it out of the screen, though you can hear audio of the video but you can’t see it.

So if you are an iOS user and have already updated your device to iOS 14 then let’s know if you have used any of these features. Have we left anything or you want to add anything, don’t forget to mention in comments.
