Government of India directs to block 22 YouTube News Channels, includes 4 from Pakistan

of India has ordered to block22 YouTube based news channels, of which 4 belong to Pakistan.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has ordered to block 22 YouTube News based channels including 4 from Pakistan, for creating news content that misleads viewers. This is first such action has been taken against YouTube based news publishers in India, post notification of the IT Rules in February 2021.

The ministry in an official statement said that it has issued an order on Monday to block 22 YouTube channels, 3 Twitter Accounts, 1 Facebook account and 1 news website. Including this time, the ministry has issued orders for blocking of 78 YouTube based news channels and several other social media accounts since December 2021.

In an official statement, the ministry said the Channels had a cumulative viewership of over 260 crore and they were spreading fake news on social media on subjects sensitive from the prospects of national security, India’s foreign relations, and public order.

“Through the recent blocking order, 18 Indian and four Pakistan-based YouTube news channels have been blocked,” the ministry said, but didn’t reveal the name of the channels.
