Root Samsung Galaxy M40 using Magisk

To tear off the virtual world to reality, the device provides 32MP + 8MP + 5MP Triple Rear Camera and 16MP Front Camera. Here we gonna explain the rooting Galaxy M40 running on Android 9.0 pie.

Caution

Once the Samsung Galaxy M40 is been rooted can’t return back to its original ROM unless it is been treated with Official stock ROM. So do think a bit more times to root the device and bear the warranty loss. You won’t be able to get official OTA updates on your Smartphone. Pre-Requirements

  • Samsung Galaxy M40
  • Windows PC
  • You must have a network with 4G connectivity on your PC or laptop what you are using to download files from here
  • Original Samsung USB cable must be used or else the device will not get detected
  • Battery power must be roughly 40% or more to stay away from automatic shutdown
  • Enable the developer option by going to settings>About Phone>Software information> build number for 7 times tapping>enter password done!
  • Enable OEM unlocking by Settings>Developer options> toggle ON the OEM unlocking option>enable
  • Enable the USB Debugging by Settings > Applications > Development and tick the USB Debugging box. Afterwards, untick the USB Debugging box for security grounds
  • Back up all the personal data present on phone through backup apps

Download Stock Firmware for Samsung Galaxy M40

  1. To avoid download speed problem download Frija Tool
  2. Then extract the file to desktop and double click on frija.exe file to launch it
  3. Two things needed that is the phone model number and CSC/regional code. Get it done by tapping on settings>About phone. And to go for regional code download Phone info sam app.
  4. Input the required data in the Frija tool and click on the Download button.

 Extract AP Firmware file from Galaxy M40 Stock Firmware

  • First, download the firmware pack and extract it.
  • Then open the extracted folder and check out the .tar.md5 format.
  • After that connect to Galaxy M40 to your PC and copy the AP firmware file and paste it into your phone SD card or internal memory.

Install Magisk App on Samsung Galaxy M40

  1. Download and install the Magisk app on your device
  2. Then open the app drawer and tap on the Install button.
  3. Now here, tap on the Select and Patch a File
  4. Go to the Boot Image file and select it
  5. After this tap on Let’s Go and wait until the Magisk patches the boot image that is found in the Downloads folder
  6. Now copy the magisk_patched.img to the desktop and rename it to boot.img.
  7. From the above we have Vbmeta. img file on PC. Drag these two files (boot.img & vbmeta.img) to the downloaded TWRP.tar file.
  8. Now we have TWRP.tar file must contain three files that must not be extracted. Now flash this single .tar file using the Odin flash tool.
  9. Let’s proceed to the next step is to boot the device in download mode by switching off the phone and press holding the Volume Down + Volume Up keys together. Release the fingers when the bootloader screen appears and then press the Volume up key.

Flash Patched Boot.tar using Odin flash tool

  1. First, boot the device to download mode by switch off the phone>press the Vol down+power button together>release the fingers when seeing the bootloader screen> press volume up.
  2. Extract the Odin zip file in PC and open the extracted folder.
  3.  Run the Odin3 xxx.exe file and connect the smartphone to PC
  4. Now you would see ID: COM section turns blue.
  5. Click the slot buttons accordingly

BL: Select the firmware file starting “BL”

AP: Select the Patched AP firmware file (magisk_patched.tar)

CP: Select the firmware file starting “CP”

CSC: Select the firmware file starting “HOME_CSC”

6. Untick the Auto Reboot option under the “Options” tab when all the firmware file  loaded to the Odin tool

7.Click on Start to flash and sooner a PASS message appears on the Odin screen.

8. Exit the download mode by pressing Vol down+power button. Again press vol up+power to boot in recovery mode as the screen goes black

You have now successfully rooted Samsung Galaxy M40. Verify if you’re rooted Samsung Galaxy M40 passes SafetyNet by pressing the “Check SafetyNet” button in Magisk App.
