The Brand New Gamification Concept for Sony Android Phones; Unlocking Smartness through Achievement

Though the tag line might make you think of some game-invoked super-android changes that can engulf your Sony smart phone in a sphere of ultra gaming ambiance, things might seem bit different and unusual if you go through the idea completely. Gaming of course is one of those vital essentials of Android that has brought the android OS much popularity. Every time the smart phone developers release a new gaming app to the market, we bless them with more power. But things might not seem much entertaining this time around with what we hear about the next surprising, rather disappointing move from Sony.

The concept named as ‘Gamification’ seems to be a childish brain exercise by a Sony employee who in this brand new idea suggests users to have access only to basic features on their smartphones initially and after knowing the phone well credit points will be added to their account with which they can unlock extra features. The developer has named the concept as EvolutionUI. As is apparent, it ropes in the idea of summing achievements and gaming points to the android set.

If this idea is implemented, we shall have our next new Sony smartphone with features of a ‘not-so-smart-phone’ device at the beginning. With usage and experience only we can  add points to our Android and get desirable features unlocked. So this can turn our normal phone usage into a gaming session. It has been suggested keeping in mind to let users appropriately use their smart phones and every smart feature that comes along with them. The achievements that are to be unlocked include opening application five times and creating five new shortcuts on the homescreen.

How good this may prove to the android arena is a matter of great concern! But the response it has received from various sites ensure that a number of Sony lovers think it an absolute stupid idea. May be, it has been built with the motive to level up the users’ knowledge in using their smart phones by putting them in an ‘exploration’ mode, but for many a non-techie users, the experience is going to prove bad enough. Blocking features intentionally can be much frustrating for many a diligent users who try to put their hands on the a feature they actually desire of using and have prior knowledge on it. Till all the features are unlocked, users will have to carry which in all terms can be termed as a ‘crippled phone’.

No doubt there are some good responses for it too. Certain sections of people have to say that this gives a brilliant forum to play with your phone while normally using it and being inspired for‘smart’ usage. It allows the users to explore their phone well and get adequate benefit from every feature in it. Gamers, in particular have given this a ‘thumbs-up’.

All we can say for now is that the upcoming Sony flagship cell phone is going to be a real mystery. It would be more appreciated if Sony makes it optional for users to choose the EvolutionUI mode, rather than forcing it on them or may Sony can add more detailed smart phone guides than the existing ones for users with the intention of making things more apparent! But what’s your views on this concept guys? Do you think its really an awesome idea? Don’t forget to share your views with us.
