The demand for oximeters has increased due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, many oximeter applications are underway. Cybersecurity researchers recently found several fake oximeter applications in the Play Store because they stole confidential bank details. The panel at Quick Heal Security Labs has started analyzing that malware creators are abusing official Trojan applications to take away users’ bank detail. According to the researchers, “Threat actors use reputable third-party app stores to distribute these rogue programs”.

Hackers often wait for the app store because of the free availability of the app. They use tools like Firebase or GitHub to set up these apps. They also use fake apps like QooApp, Huawei etc for efficient print and distribution. “Attackers are always on the lookout for opportunities to harass users. But it is important to be vigilant whenever possible,” the group said by advising that opens these shared links on messaging platforms or social media.
